**** Empires & Dungeons news!

I have updated Empires & Dungeons to version 1.1c. There still was some speed bug slowing the game in 1.1b. This has been fixed now and it should run as smoothly as the prequel.

Niels is ill, but I am writing this on his behalf. The recent Empires & Dungeons 2 update from Friday to version 1.1. had a problem where the game was massively slowed down. This has been fixed and there is a new version (1.1b) available.

Empires & Dungeons 2: The Sultanate – released!

January 27, 2011

Today I have released “Empires & Dungeons 2: The Sultanate”!! The game offers an exciting new desert scenario with new artwork and new challenges. Mind you it is not a complete new game, but improves the original game idea just at the right spots. Do not expect something radically new, but instead a proven and fun game engine in a new setting.

Empires & Dungeons 2: Item system (revised)

January 8, 2011

The game is currently being tested and it appears my item ideas didn´t work out. You can forget everything I wrote in the previous post. Right now this are the differences to the Empires & Dungeons 1 item system:

  • You can carry more than one weapon.
  • There are no primary and secondary weapons anymore. There is a new attribute called “Slash/Smash weapons” and “Thrust/Shoot” (literally “Pierce”) weapons. To use one of the three combat attacks (Thrust [meaning “shooting” when having a bow], Slash, Smash) you should use the corresponding weapons for best effect. It doesn´t make sense to smash with a dagger or thrust with a club?
  • You have to “equip” a weapon to use it and you can only “equip” one weapon at a time. You can change the weapon you use during combat.
  • Some monsters are invulnerable to certain kinds of attack. For example you shouldn´t try to stab a skeleton.
  • You can carry more than one magic ring and ALL of them will effect your ratings (despite what I wrote in the earlier post)
  • The game still measures the items strengths in “lesser”, “greater” etc., but there is a number rating displayed showing it´s total strength. Like “lesser” [3].
  • You cannot sell items from your backpack. I want you to make the decision at the moment you find the treasure whether to use or sell an item.
  • No weapon breaking.

Empires & Dungeons 2: Item system

December 15, 2010

I have decided to change the way items are handled in Empires & Dungeons 2. There have been many questions about how primary and secondary weapons work and whether a level 2 weapon with “greater” weapon damage is more powerful than a level 3 weapon with “lesser” weapon damage. I think all of this has been more confusing than it was worth. So…

  • In E&D 2 you can carry more than one weapon, but the game will automatically use only the most powerful one.
  • Same applies to magic rings = Only the most powerful in your inventory can be worn.
  • The game will display the strength of an item in numbers and not “greater”, “lesser”, etc.
  • You can sell items from your inventory. This way you can influence if you want to have the game use a different weapon / ring from your inventory (just sell the other ones). Or you can make cash faster.
  • My idea of weapon breaking in combat is dropped. It wouldn´t be fun if your new super sword would break, would it? 🙂

Just got defeated….

…three times in a row by the computer AI in Empires & Dungeons 2. Kind of strange if your own game is better than you. 🙂

Empires & Dungeons 2 – Gameplay changes

September 26, 2010

I’ll use this post to add some news about upcoming gameplay changes. This list is not complete and I am going to add new changes during the time.

  • Dungeon crawling gets you more money (= to make it more worthwhile).
  • You can now carry an unlimited number of weapons, however you will only get one bonus for skill and one for damage (highest automatically used).
  • Weapons can break in combat (that´s why carrying a replacement is a possibility now).
  • Archers cause more damage
  • Cavalry (which are elephants now) cause more damage to archers and catapults
  • All difficulty settings available immediately (so experienced players from E&D 1 can get their challenge).
  • Difficulty settings completely new tweaked. Higher difficulty levels will now be a lot more challenging.

Empires & Dungeons 2 – In Development

September 10, 2010

I am working on a sequel / stand-alone add-on for the game Empires & Dungeons 2.

What it is going to offer (features):

  • New desert/oriental strategy map setting
  • A bigger strategy map (12×11 fields)
  • 12 completely new maps (of which 5 will have new scenarios and about 6 the new desert setting).
  • All maps created new from scratch
  • New medieval/oriental units
  • New music & sound effects
  • Some new artwork required for the new setting
  • Some more general polishment & tweaks

What it is NOT going to be:

  • It´s NOT a completely new game
  • It´s NOT a complete interface change like from Smugglers 3 to Smugglers 4 or TV Manager 1 to TV Manager 2.
  • The underlying game mechanics have NOT changed, but at some points tweaked
  • It´s NOT offering a completely changed setting of monsters or items
  • (and thus…) it´s NOT going to be priced very high, but is supposed to be a very reasonable priced sequel / stand-alone expansion.

Development status:

I did already most of the work required. What´s left is to create some more maps, put everything nicely together and test it throughly. It will most definately be out before Christmas!

And here is the first screenshot:

Windowed mode for Smugglers, TV manager, etc.

May 23, 2010

From the old forum:

“Right click on the shortcut on your desktop. Select “properties” Select “Shortcut” tab. Then beside “Run:” pull the dropbox down and change it from “Normal Window” to “Minimized.” When you start the game it will start minimized and be on your taskbar-just click on it and the game is now “windowed.” Just a small little black box will be on your desktop where the black background used to be, but you can now move the window around. ”

Enjoy! 🙂
