Get into the TV Manager 2 beta (#1 competition)

In our newest upcoming game TV Manager 2, you take charge of a small and nearly bankrupt TV station and lead it to glory as the world’s biggest TV network! With the development of TV Manager 2 coming to an end, we are in need of beta testers.

To celebrate the new blog, we are running a small competition. In order to grab one of the few open positions for beta testing, all you have to do is to post two of your favorite movies or series, which you would like to appear in TV Manager 2. To post just click on “leave comment” at the bottom of this post. From all comments we will randomly choose one winner. The competition runs until Monday 9th November.

Should you not be chosen in this competition you can also get access to the beta test by regularly make posts and suggestions in this blog. We hand-pick the authors of the most frequent and helpful posts.

What is a beta test? Well, at the appropriate time between November and December we will give you access to an almost completed copy of the game for free. All you have to do is to play the game and report us any bugs or problems you encounter. Because TV Manager 2 is an online game you will not be able to use this copy of the game after the beta test. Depending on the amount and helpfulness of your feedback you might get a free copy of the full version.

Terms and conditions: We reserve the right to deny you or cancel your access to the beta test at any time and with any or without any reason or notice. If you decide to enter the beta test additional terms and conditions might apply, about which you will be informed before. The law of the European Union and Germany applies and court of justice is Freiburg in Germany.

Remember: You do NOT have to register to post a comment in this blog!

    As the World Turns
    EastEnders
    Coronation Street
    Neighbours
    Days of our Lives
    Another World
    The Young and the Restless
    General Hospital

    All My Children
    The Edge of Night
    Search for Tomorrow
    Sons and Daughters
The prime-time soap series I have mentioned before (Dallas, Dynasty, falcon Crest and even older is Peyton Place)

And in the afternoon it was good to air something for the young. Here are some cartoons that haven’t been mentioned:
    Beavis and Butthead
    The Flintstones
    Pink Panther
    The Jetsons
    Scooby-Doo

    Kim Possible

I hope others will come up with a few more.

  29. Gorron Says:

how about opera’s if you still have the live events thing like in version 1. it would be like the HD simulcast the met opera does.

And if you look at the shortened version of the magic flute they did in English for kids, to the high tech almost like a movie version of faust. You can see a range of settings for your program.

    manon
    capriccio
    la traviata
    carmen
    the magic flute
    la damnation de faust
    la boheme
    la fille du regiment
    hansel and gretel
    madam butterfly
    le nozze di figaro
    don pasquale
    la sonnabula
    william tell
    thais
    I purtitani
    the marriage of figaro
    aida
    don giovanni
    tosca
    rigoletto

  30. Barney Says:

I remember that in the original game tv-series were limited at a maximum of 9 episodes (correct me if I’m wrong). Most of the tv series that are suggested here have a lot more episodes.A lot of succesful shows have up to 24 episodes in one season. But we almost forgot about the mini – series, they are made for TV-maneger2! Here are a few titles:

    Shogun
    The Thorn Birds
    North and South
    The Winds of War
    War and Remembrance
    Lonesome Dove
    Into the West
    Roots
    Amerika
    Brideshead Revisited
    The Day After
    The Singing Detective
    Rome
    I, Claudius
    Quo Vadis
    The Last Days of Pompeii
    The 4400
    Frank Herbert’s Dune
    World War III
    V
    Taken
    Salem’s Lot
    The Shinning
    It
    Great Expectations
    The Jewel in the Crown
    Das Boot
    Band of Brothers

I can imagine that it’s alot of work to come up with modified titles of real movies and tv-series. Maybe creative visitors can come up with a few alternative titles for well-known movies er tv-series.
For example: Cheers – Malone’s (Bar)
    Sam’s Cafe
    Boston Bar
I’m sure we can come up with a few titles you can use in the game.

  31. Luuk Says:

Definitely Dexter and How I Met Your Mother!
Can’t believe nobody has mentioned these two before me.

  32. Luuk Says:

Oh, just saw we are making awesomely long lists now? Haha.

    Close to home
    NCIS
    Midsomer Murders

God, it’s hard to think of some good ones while there have been mentioned hundreds of series and movies before me.
Anyway, I would love to lend you a hand in making TV Station Manager 2 a great game. Let me know.

  33. Barney Says:

Because live-tv was a way to attract a big audience in TV Manager 1, I think it will be important in TV Maneger 2. In the original game it was not available in many different forms. I remeber three different groups: sport-events, reality-shows, and music. Those music events were limited to classical music I think. I don´t recall the option to air a rock concert for example. It would be nice to have more options, because these two options alone will attract two very different kinds of audience to your station.
But also in the type of sports you air you can get the attention of different audience groups. Take for example golf or wrestling, and tennis or boxing.

I´ve come up with a few live-tv events that could qualify to be in TV Manager 2. Some will only appeal to European audiences some will mainly attract citizens of the U.S.A. Maybe some can only be available on the USA map and some only on the European map. Though it might be fun to get the Americans to watch the Eurovision Song Contest.(I don´t think it will be a big hit)

  35. Barney Says:

I think it can be a good idea to also let the player choose some art house style movies and even documentaries. These can attract the attention of what was called the ‘upper class’ part of the audience in TV Manager 1.Naturally these movies will not have a huge audience but it can be a cheaper way than lauching a marketing campain to get those people to like your station. Titles could also include black & white classics (Casablanca, Modern Times) or foreign language movies (Cidade de Deus (City of God), Der Himmel Uber Berlin, Seven Samurai) Here are a few more:

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
    Elephant
    Hard Candy
    Oldboy
    Russian Ark
    Il Conformista
    Good bye, Lenin!
    Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
    House of Flying Daggers
    Pan’s Labyrinth
    Blechtrommel, Die
    Broken Flowers
    Magnolia
    Lost In Translation
    Night On Earth
    Paris,Texas
    Room With a View, A
    Pelle The Conqueror
    Last Tango in Paris

    Documentaries:
    Bowling for Columbine
    Grizzly Man
    Wordplay
    An Inconvenient Truth
    Fahrenheit 9/11
    Imagine: John Lennon
    Jesus Camp
    Powaqqatsi: Life in Transformation
    Spellbound
    Super Size Me
    Woodstock
    When We Were Kings
    Metallica: Some Kind of Monster

    • Niels Bauer Says:

Ha! I’ll never include documentaries of Michael Moore. This guy always thinks up the content of the point he would like to “proof” in his documentary and afterwards looks how to make everyone believe it´s the truth. On the other hand I do need some one star movies. 😉

      • Barney Says:

Ha ha ha,but this proofs my point that it will be a lot more difficult to reach a large group of viewers for these kind of movies. The “upper class” group viewers is hard to please, in the original game it wasn’t a group that was needed to make your station a succes. I remember that most advertisers that were looking for a specific target group were looking for kids, teens, lower class and women.

But the upper class is also interesting for advertisers, most of them will earn more money than other groups maybe more exclusive product producers will want to advertise for them. But also book sellers and theatre producers will be interested to reach that group.

I agree that you also will need an amount of one star movies, they will be a lot cheaper and players will need them at the start of the game. Maybe in TV Manager 2 we will find the documentaries of Michael Moore beteen movies titles like Attack of the Supermonsters, Bloodsucking Freaks and Driller Killer.

  36. Niels Bauer Says:

In TV Manager 2 we have the audience groups of: children, teenagers, women, men and seniors.

    • Barney Says:

In that case, forget I mentioned this. Thenart house movies and documentaries are not of intrest in the game. Or just maybe a one star Michael Moore movie can be in the game, ha ha ha!

  37. francoisbagkus Says:

    1. Arrested Development

    2. Der Untergang (Downfall)

And I would hate to be the party pooper, but will there be legal issues in using the title of the games?

    Cheers,
    Francisco

    • Niels Bauer Says:

We will be going to use slightly different and funny modifications of the original titles. However I also have the legal opinion of an international law firm stating that mentioning trademarks in games as part of the game content is not a use of those trademarks and as such cannot be a violation of the trademark ownership. Still I believe that slight modifications might even be more fun. AND everyone will have the ability to edit the movie titles.

  38. Marko Djordjevic Says:

The Ugly truth – a comedy movie about the rules of man and woman relationships with Katherine Heigl.

Couples retreat – A comedy centered around four couples who settle into a tropical-island resort for a vacation. While one of the couples is there to work on the marriage, the others fail to realize that participation in the resort’s therapy sessions is not optional. Starring beautiful Krisetn Bell and fatter than ever Vince Vaughn.

Charmed – teenage series about three sisters who are witches and fight evil warlocks and demons with their powers and spells, while trying to live as normal life as possible…

That 70’s show – a comedy series put in hippies time about 6 friends who are trying to live their high school life as googd as possible in small, boring town. Main character is Eric, a clumsy mamma’s boy star wars fan in love with his best friend Donna, the girl next door.

  39. Niels Bauer Says:

Thanks a lot. Tomorrow I’ll announce the winner. You can still write additional comments and suggest titles, but the competition is closed.

  40. Niels Bauer Says:

And the winner is … due to the computer program I´ve just coded to draw a random number … so the winner is … number 3 counted from above. That’s Sil.

    Congratulations.

Additionally I am going to select Barney and Garron for their efforts. Especially Barney wrote *a lot* in this and other threads.

You’ll hear from me. That is if you entered your correct email. ^^
A short test of the network code will possibly start as early as next week and a playable beta in late November / early December.
